Thomas R. Brown Distinguished Scholarships

The Thomas R. Brown Scholarship is awarded to a select group of first-year engineering students - who are also National Scholars or Flinn Semi/Finalists - who display excellence in academic and extracurricular endeavors. This scholarship is made possible by the generosity of the Thomas R. Brown Foundation. Tom Brown, co-founder of Burr-Brown, led the company to worldwide prominence in the development, manufacturing and marketing of data conversion and mixed signal integrated circuits. Texas Instruments acquired Burr-Brown in 2000 for an amount that still holds the record for an Arizona-grown entrepreneurial endeavor.

Eligibility

  • National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists & Finalists
  • National Hispanic Scholars
  • National African American Scholars
  • National Indigenous Scholars
  • National Rural and Small Town Scholars
  • Flinn Scholar Semifinalists
  • Flinn Scholar Finalists

Package

The Thomas R. Brown Scholarship is an approximately $5,000/year award, renewable for four-years (upon verification of renewal criteria). The award is stackable with UA-awarded merit scholarships. However, the scholarship supersedes the College of Engineering National Scholars $1,000 award.

The Thomas R. Brown is awarded to eligible incoming engineering students, via a selective application process and review. Please read below for more information regarding application timelines and renewal criteria.
