Background

The SSES is the union of five founding departments in the College of Engineering: Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering, Mining and Geological Engineering, and Systems and Industrial Engineering.

Vision statement

The School of Sustainable Engineered Systems will be a leader in the improved design of linkages between our natural and engineered systems to sustainably provide material resources, water, energy, infrastructure, and manufactured products through innovative education, research, and outreach.

Opportunity

SSES presents a unique opportunity to create a center of excellence in interdisciplinary research and education in the College of Engineering, with the ability to take on the challenges of the 21st century. SSES will become a leader in proposing creative sustainable solutions to current problems, which will influence the basic human and societal needs in energy and environment, water, manufacturing, health care, transportation and infrastructure, communication and information technology.
