Here, at UA Engineering, we want our students to be successful. One way we are doing this? We created the Pre-Engineering program.
Students in Pre-Engineering will be advised through the College of Engineering Academic Affairs Office. In their first semester, Pre-Engineering students take a one-unit class that will provide in-depth information on all engineering majors and engineering student clubs. Students in the class will also meet with academic advisors, receive direction to tutoring, and receive the attention that will enable them to achieve success in engineering.
Students can move to a traditional engineering degree program after completing the courses listed below with a minimum of 12 units at the University of Arizona. The student would also need to meet the advanced standing grade point average (link to Advanced standing page) in their intended major. These courses are the foundation engineering courses that all engineering students complete before advancing to their major coursework.
· Math 124 (Calculus I) (5 units)
· Math 129 (Calculus II) (3 units)
· Chem 103a (Fundamentals of Chemistry) (3 units)
· Chem 104a (Fundamentals of Chemistry LAB) (1 unit)
· Chem 103b (or MSE 110 or MCB 181, depending on major) (3/4 units)
· Chem 104b (MSE 110 or MCB 181 students do not take) (1 unit)
· Physics 141 (Introductory Mechanics) (4 units)
· Engineering 102 (Introduction to Engineering) (3 units)
· Engineering 170 or ECE 175 (Programming, if required by major) (3 units)
· English 101 (or English 103 or English 107 or English 109) (3 units)
· English 102 (or English 104 or English 108 or English 109) (3 units)
Total: 30/32 units
No student will be permitted to stay in the Pre-Engineering program beyond the end of his/her completing 50 units (does not include courses that must be taken before Math 124 or any other pre-curriculum classes, such as English 100 or English as a second language). At this point, students must either move to an engineering major or move to a major in another college.
