Engineering Seniors Awarded $10,000 in Prizes at Engineering Design Day 2009

By Pete Brown - May 6, 2009, 12:47 pm

Senior capstone project sponsors awarded more than $10,000 in prizes for senior engineering projects presented at Engineering Design Day 2009.

Walter Seaman (left) and Matthew Leavy scrutinize their test apparatus, which they and their teammates designed to test how equipment seals withstand a simulated lunar environment.

This year’s event was held May 5 in the Student Union Memorial Center’s Grand Ballroom, and drew a crowd of about 800. The event was organized by the College’s Interdisciplinary Design Program, and Sponsored by Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.

Flocking to the event were students, faculty, parents, high school students, industry sponsors, and the press. Local coverage appeared today in the Arizona Daily Star, the Arizona Daily Wildcat, and the Tucson Citizen.

The slideshow below features a selection of photographs from the event.

In the awards list below, clicking on the project title opens a new browser window and takes you to the Senior Capstone Project Database, which describes each project in detail. All projects are listed, not just those that were awarded prizes.

An 80-page booklet describing the program and all the projects can be downloaded in PDF format here (only 1.5 MB; separate window opens): EDD_2009_book.pdf
