Greetings!

Welcome to the world of engineering and thank you for your interest in the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona.

We are looking for a students who are creative problem solvers, in fall 2011, our freshman class was 27% female, and the College moved above 21% for the first time in its history.  Our freshman class had 37% students of color and the College is over 31% students of color.  We value diversity as a key learning experience for students and the only way to get strong engineering solutions.  You cannot get solutions that meet the needs of ALL unless ALL are represented at the solution table!  

Solving the Grand Challenges
We believe that the purpose of engineering is simple – to help people live better lives.  Whether your passion is building skyscrapers or spacecraft, designing new ways to detect cancer, or making our water and energy clean and green, you can do it at the University of Arizona.

Our faculty team is constructing new material relative to the key engineering grand challenges.  How do we provide clean water to everyone?  How do we design personalized medicine to help you feel better quickly?  How does the brain work and how do we build computer models that can approach the speed and complexity of human reasoning?  As an engineer, these are the issues and challenges you will be working on over the next 35 years!

Infinite Possibilities
The College of Engineering has more than a dozen undergraduate majors, and our motto is “infinite possibilities.” Our programs demand a great deal from students, and each year we bring in a stronger group of freshmen. If you come here prepared to succeed, I guarantee we will help you achieve that success. I promise to support you with tutoring, academic and professional advising, and mentoring. Our faculty and staff care about your future.

Our freshman design class, ENGR 102, is a hands-on design project class that will help you understand what engineers do and the importance of the profession.  If you are unsure of a particular major – RELAX and tell your parents to relax also.  ENGR 102 will show you material from all of our 13 majors and you will be able to make a selection with knowledge and conviction.   We likely have majors that you have never heard about so be patient in picking.  Find your passion!

Make UA Engineering a Part of Your Future

The process of finding the right school and programs for you can be daunting. Here at UA Engineering, we're here to help you make that decision.

While you're in high school, your university search will intensify, and the more information you have at your disposal, the easier it will be to make a decision about college. You should consider:

• The classes you are taking in high school. Be sure to take:
  • four years of math (to prepare you for calculus) NEVER skip math your senior year!
  • chemistry
  • physics
• Reviewing our admission requirements
• Exploring engineering scholarships
• Checking out the options for visiting us on campus 
• Learning about your first engineering class, Engineering 102
